Top Ten Hit List

Whether you want to preserve your children's school mementos, or have the responsibility for caring for the families photos and documents, there are a few items on the "Top Ten Hit List" you must avoid at all cost;

  1. Any off the shelf tape (Scotch tape, masking tape, transparent tapes, packing tapes, double sided tapes)

  2. Contact cement

  3. Cardboard

  4. White glue (O.K. only for some ceramics)

  5. Any "permanent" fix it, stick it or glue it material

  6. Dry mounting

  7. Lamination

  8. PVC plastic, vinyl and other smelly plastic products, "Magnetic" photo albums

  9. Regular hangers, staples, paper clips (they can rust and cause distortions)

  10. All household detergents, cleaning and waxing supplies

Preserving and protecting your family's history will benefit more people than just you. More helpful suggestions and professional "tricks of the trade" can be found in Scott M. Haskins' book "How To Save Your Stuff From a Disaster".
